Since 1949

Our History

A story of faithful church life, relocations, building, pastors, and continued ministry in Warren.

Organized as a New Testament church

For some time previous to October 1949, a group of people had been meeting in the basement of a home on 10 Mile Road. On October 15, 1949, these people met at the Old Township Hall at 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke to organize a New Testament Church.

After Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church was organized and the church doors were opened for new members, 55 persons came forward to unite with the church by letters from other churches. These 55 people were recognized as charter members.

Growing through moves and construction

On November 9, 1949, the church voted to buy four lots on the southwest corner of Eleven Mile Road and Van Dyke for a new church building. The building was completed and in use within one year.

In 1969, the route of I-696 forced Emmanuel to move. Ground breaking ceremonies for the new property were held on April 26, 1970, and the first service in the new church building was held in February 1971.

Continuing under faithful leadership

In October 1979, Emmanuel paid the final payment on its mortgage and held a note burning during the annual Missionary Conference.

In December 2002, Brother Tracy Herald accepted the pastoral position at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. The church and outreach ministries continue to grow under pastoral leadership.
